Tips for Finding Your Perfect Photographer

Choosing the right wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your big day. Your photographer will play a key role in capturing memories you’ll treasure forever, so it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they’re the perfect fit for your vision and needs. From their style and experience to packages and availability, knowing what to ask can help you feel confident in your choice and ensure your day is beautifully documented. Here’s a guide to the essential questions every couple should ask their wedding photographer.

Do you travel outside St Albans, Hertfordshire?

Yes, I’m based in St Albans but travel across the UK for weddings. Whether it’s a countryside venue or a city celebration, I’m happy to be part of your special day.

How would you describe your style?

My style is natural, documentary, and storytelling. I capture moments as they unfold, without staging or directing, allowing your emotions and interactions to tell the story of your wedding day.

Will you direct or pose us during the wedding?

No, I focus on capturing candid moments. I work unobtrusively, blending in with your guests to ensure natural and genuine photos.

Do you take traditional group shots?

Yes, I recommend limiting group shots to 3–5 key groups to keep things efficient and enjoyable. I ensure this part of the day is quick and professional so we can focus on capturing candid moments.

What preparations do you make before our wedding?

I’ll send a detailed questionnaire about a month before your wedding to gather all the necessary details. I also scout the venue if needed and ensure my equipment is prepped, including backups, so everything runs smoothly.

How do you handle unexpected situations like bad weather?

I’m experienced in adapting to any conditions, whether it’s low light, rain, or tight spaces. My professional equipment and creative approach ensure stunning results regardless of the circumstances.

Do you photograph bridal prep?

Yes, if you’d like. Bridal prep is a wonderful opportunity to capture the anticipation and excitement before the ceremony. These moments can make for some of the most personal and heartfelt images of the day.

Do you photograph in colour or black and white?

I deliver every image in both colour and black and white. Black-and-white images are perfect for highlighting emotion, while colour captures the vibrancy of your day.

What happens after the wedding?

I take up to three weeks to hand-edit your photographs, ensuring each image is polished and tells your story beautifully. You’ll receive a private online gallery to view and download your photos.

What’s included in your photography service?

I personally photograph your wedding, capturing authentic moments with care. All images are hand-edited and delivered in colour and black and white through a private online gallery with unlimited downloads. An unlimited personal-use license and UK travel expenses are included, with no hidden costs.

ready to book?

or would you like to find out more?

How do we book?

To secure your wedding date, I require a signed contract and a £200 non-refundable booking fee. The remaining balance is due 28 days before the wedding. Contact me anytime to check availability or arrange a consultation.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, let me know as soon as possible. The booking fee is non-refundable, but I’ll do my best to accommodate a new date if my schedule allows.

Are you insured?

Yes, I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance. This provides peace of mind for both you and your venue.

How do you ensure backups of our photos?

I use dual-memory cards in my cameras, ensuring every image is backed up during the wedding. After the event, all files are saved to multiple hard drives and cloud storage for added security.

How far in advance should we book you?

I recommend booking as soon as possible, especially if your wedding is during peak season. Popular dates can fill up quickly, so securing your booking early ensures I’ll be available to capture your special day.

Can we provide a list of specific shots we’d like?

Absolutely. While I focus on documenting the day naturally, I’m happy to incorporate specific requests to ensure your most important moments are captured.

What should we do if we feel camera-shy?

Many of my couples feel this way at first, but my unobtrusive approach helps you relax. You’ll barely notice me, and I’ll capture authentic, natural moments without forcing you to pose.

Will you be the one photographing our wedding?

Yes, I personally photograph every wedding I book to ensure consistency and quality.

How long have you been a full-time wedding photographer?

I’ve been a full-time wedding photographer for over a decade, capturing hundreds of weddings across the UK. Photography is my passion and career, ensuring your wedding gets 100% of my commitment.

Why should we choose you?

I bring years of experience, a documentary approach, and a commitment to creating timeless images that tell your unique story. My goal is to ensure you feel relaxed and your memories are preserved beautifully.
